Garage Cleaning (Update)

Some of you may remember when I bought the 944, I didn’t have any space in our garage to store it during winters. Inside this garage is decades of history, and parental hoarding. So I took it upon myself to clean it out myself. Here’s how it looked in November 2014.

Here it is after the initial cleaning in November 2014.

Here it is today, still cleaning as I post this now. It's still messy as hell, but nowhere near as bad as it was two years ago!

I've learned that garage cleaning happens in stages. Since I moved in 7 years ago I've gone from a no car garage, to a one car, to a two car. And just recently I maximized the utility by being able to park both cars, and access the food pantry (before blocked by a car), my toolboxes (which I brought home), and all my detailing stuff. There's still more to go though.

Every little bit helps!

My parents are serial hoarders (well, one more so than the other). I’m ashamed to say that some of it rubbed off on me, always saving things that “might come in handy some day”.

I’ve been trying to work on it though. I’ve even had to turn down a very tempting free kerosene garage heater on account of not having enough room for it. Part of me is pissed for not taking it, but part of me is proud for making the tough call.

Life does happen but I only personally know only 3 people with real garages and none of them are able to keep the family car in it because of all the junk they’ve got piled up. They’ve got to clean snow and bird shit off of their cars throughout the various seasons and one of them had his car vandalized because he has to park in the street since the “garage” is nothing more than a storage closet.

I keep both inside, but we are doing some renovations in Sept and the car will be outside. It’s already very tight while stacking all the materials for the project. Hopefully afterwards, it will be clean and clear... til the next project (while is always and forever!)

I found old vinyl records, lots of them. I also found some Porsche posters, a motorcycle carburetor that looks brand new, and that Porsche sign on the hatch of the 944 in that last pic. That’s all the interesting stuff I found so far. Actually, I found one more thing. The flag that they lay on servicemen’s coffins for funerals, I found the one that was used for my grandfather’s funeral way before I was born. I’m putting that somewhere safe.
